Collège Marie Mauron Fayence France

Our school is a mixed secondary school of about 580 pupils aged between 11 and 16 years old. Our school is a state school which follows the curriculum set by the Education Nationale Minister who is our referential authority. The pupils study compulsory subjects such as French, Maths, Physics, Biology, History and Geography, Civics, Technology, Physical Education, Art, Music and languages as well as optional subjects such as Latin, regional languages and European Sections with extra classes in a chosen European language. Our school is located in a semi-rural area located around 30 km from larger cities including the famous seaside resorts of Nice and St Tropez. Our pupils come from various social and cultural backgrounds but we can say that they are quite privileged as compared to their mates living in the city. Indeed, they can enjoy a peaceful life in the countryside and they can enjoy a great variety of sport and hobbies. Yet, as some of our pupils have never had the opportunity to leave their hometown, they are somehow ignorant of different way of living elsewhere in Europe.
-  At each level our pupils are encouraged to attend optional classes referring to social issues such as tolerance, freedom of expression, violence…
-   In the official curriculum in Civics, they are taught the basis of our constitution, the basis of the International Convention for the rights of children.
-  All pupils aged 12 and above are taken to a court to attend a trial and therefore realize the functioning of our judicial system.
- Classes are organized around the issue of domestic violence.
For the elder, information meetings are organized to let them know about the need to get effective protection as far as their sexuality is concerned.
All pupils also take part in group works showing the dangers of the Internet and the necessity to get protected against any kind of abuse.
      - Classes are organized around the issue of domestic violence.
- For pupils who are likely to drop school before the passing of their final exam, sessions are organized to get an academic preparation for a basic exam called CFG (Certificate of General Studies) including a few notions of the rules on a workplace.
- Pupils from the age of 14 are also encouraged to take an optional exam in first aid assistance called PSC1.
