Best regards from the sunny side of Europe!

Our secondary school is located in the centre of Los Realejos, a middle- sized town ( about 37,500 inhabitants) in the north  of Tenerife island. We offer compulsory secondary education ( for students aged 12-16), baccalaureate ( two years of schooling),  basic vocational training and middle-level and higher- level training cycles on Commerce and Marketing to about 770 students. Our students' parents work in tourism and construction sectors as well as in agriculture, most of them working class. Our municipality is strongly concerned about Children’s Rights and is currently a partner in a regional programme on this issue.
As a result of the economic recession we have a lot of unemployed families and therefore an increasing number of pupils at risks of social exclusion who have low expectations in what concerns to school success. Apart from this, we have a significant number of migrants and also pupils with special needs who have learning, behavior and light mental disorders in our institution. These concerns are real and our school tries at least to minimize these striking problems.
The first foreign language at the IES Realejos is English as for the second language the students can choose between French and German. The school has three computer classrooms, three Science labs, two Technology classrooms, a gym, a library and a cafetería. It is financed by the Regional Education Bureau. We educate children for being responsible, supportive, critical, tolerant, socially active, respectful towards diversity , and healthy adults.

We develop several crosscurricular projects ( Maths and Arts) and belong to several school networks concerning health education, ITs, sustainability, coeducation, cultural heritage and cooperative work. Our students are also offered to join several exchange programmes with German and French schools. We have also participated in several regional, national and international projects. From 2010 to 2012 our school was involved in a successful Comenius multilateral project and, students and teachers are eager to participate to other such activities which proved to be an important part in developing the abilities of communicating and socializing, of making friends and discovering and respecting the culture and values of each country and individual. Our students and our school board are very eager to work in the project for best outcomes and will have very creative and important contributions for this successful project.
